LB: 5 "Nature Boy"

 "Nature Boy"

The song that I chose this week is called "Nature Boy" by Nat "King" Cole. The lyrics in this song are very clear. Unlike previous songs that I have listened to for this class, it is easy to understand the lyrics that Nat "King" Cole is singing. The lyrics of this song portray a story and a message. At the beginning of the song a boy is described. He is shy but smart. One day he comes over to the man singing the song and speaks many things to him, but he said the most important thing is "to love and be loved in return." This quote is repeated multiple times throughout the song. It is not only a hook but it also develops the message of the song to love each other. My favorite part of the "Nature Boy" is the crooning that is used by Nat "King" Cole. The manner in which he uses crooning helps to develop emotion in the song. It makes the song sound more genuine. It also creates motivation to take the lesson of the song and apply it to life. It makes you want to make others feel loved. In conclusion, the song "Nature Boy" shows progress that is being made to the music industry.

  1. This is a great and very interesting blog post. You really explained the message portrayed in this song and someone could almost understand this song with never listening to it. I also agree that this song's message is that it makes you want to make others feel loved. This is a great takeaway from this piece of music.

  2. I love Nat “King” Cole, I did my blog post of Nature Boy, too! Cole was my grandma’s favorite artist, my sister and I even bought one of his vinyls when we first moved into our apartment to celebrate. Crooning was the vocal style of the time, but I think his tone is so much more smooth. His vibrato isn’t as prevalent and I think it’s what makes his songs, like Nature Boy, draw you in.

  3. I'm obsessed with your blog layout! Seriously so cute!
I like that you bought up the message because it helped me to understand the song a lot better than I previously did. I also like how you talked about Nat "King" Cole's crooning, I love the way his voice sounds because it's so smooth and relaxed. This is an awesome blog! Great job!

  4. I too think Nat "King" Cole's crooning is a highlight of this song. His voice is so smooth and honestly the most appealing one I've heard yet in class. I think your explanation of the lyrics are interesting, but not exactly what Nat was going for. To me it sounds more, like you said, a narrative story. So as the man tells the boy, which I'm assuming what the perspective of the song is, is to find a partner rather than love the world. I think this because its quiet hard to be loved by the world, but when loved by someone that person becomes your world.
