"One O'Clock Jump"
The song that I chose is called "One O'Clock Jump" by Count Basie. This song does not have any words, however it still has emotion. In the beginning of the song it is simply a piano being played but as the song continues there are many instruments and different rhythms that are added. At the beginning when there is only one instrument being played it is a calm mood, but as the second instrument is added to the song the tone changes to more of upbeat. I think that the second instrument that it added is a saxophone, however I am not completely sure. Throughout the song there are several instruments added that help build to the theme of the song. My favorite part of the song is the ending. I like that the song ends with like one last beat. It is a dramatic ending because the tempo of the song picks up at the end and then it ends with a simple beat. "One O'Clock Jump" is a twelve bar blue. During the time that this song was written, twelve bar blues were frequently used. The twelve bars are repeated throughout this song. In conclusion, although "One O'Clock Jump" is an instrumental song it still has several elements that make it memorable.
Hi Claire! I really liked your summary of this song. I like how you added that although the song doesn't have words, you can still feel emotion. Good job!
ReplyDeleteHey Claire! I too thought this song was memorable. I love that about music! How even though there aren't any lyrics to a song, you can still recognize the emotion or message the composer is trying to portray. This song was very upbeat and cheerful! I think Count Basies aim was to lift peoples spirits!
ReplyDeleteI like how you analyzed this song through the instruments used and how the changes affected the emotion of the song. You're definitely right about it having emotion even without words and you did a great job of explaining how you interpret that. The ending is probably my favorite part too, I love that absoluteness of the last note!
